On January 25th, 2016 Noelle van Lonkhuyzen (The Corporate Horse Listener) spoke at Executive Club meeting of the Diplomatic Council (www.diplomatic-council.org) at the Grandhotel Hessischer Hof in Frankfurt.
In front of an eclectic international audience including Ambassadors, Ministers, CEOs, Decision Makers and Thought Leaders, who had flown in from all parts of the world, Noelle spoke about the power of experiential learning and the magic that horses in particular bring to a unique and personalised experience – when executives partner with horses to expand and develop their leadership.
She elaborated on the similarities between the ‘needs’ of a herd of horses and that of a team, a business or an organisation, “To be successful, both Horses and Humans need Trust, Respect & Communication. Without trust there is nothing, with trust you build respect and communication.”
Noelle elaborated on the fact that horses are the mirror to your soul, that they show you honestly who you are, what you are and how you are. That horses have no agenda, they are not impressed by your fancy watch, your big house or expensive sports car – therefore their feedback is honest and unfiltered. They are interested in ‘you’ and are seeking a leader ‘in the moment’. She said, “When a human does not take the lead, the horse will take up the mantle of leadership… A key quality of leadership is in genuinely giving the feeling of choice to follow.”
Noelle’s speech was very well received with Hang Nguyen, Secretary General of the Diplomatic Council saying “What an interesting topic! It is a shame Noelle could not bring one of her horses to the hotel, so we could experience it first hand!”
